GALWAY ARE ON course for their first Connacht minor championship since 2007 after their six-point victory over Sligo today.
Galway were eight points up at half-time, playing with a strong breeze at their backs.
A penalty on 28 minutes by full-forward Peter Cooke gave Galway a 1-6 to 0-3 lead, with Colin Brady and big midfielder Michael Daly adding scores before the interval.
Sligo did put in a spirited second half performance and they put the first two scores on the board after the restart.
With 10 minutes remaining Sligo still trailed by six, but Galway introduced some fresh legs and they tagged on the three more points.
Nonetheless Sligo battled on until the very last play and Jason Perry slotted a last-minute penalty after he was dragged down in the square.
They now face Mayo in the Connacht semi-final, while Roscommon take on Connacht league winners Leitrim in the other semi.
