Moroney replaces Fitzgerald as acting CEO of Munster GAA

The head of the GAA’s Central Competitions Central Committee is set to combine that with a position with the provincial council.

THE MUNSTER COUNCIL last night approved a recommendation for the head of the GAA’s CCCC Simon Moroney to assume the position of the province’s new acting CEO after Pat Fitzgerald’s surprising departure from the role.

It emerged at a meeting in Limerick last night that Fitzgerald is on administrative leave effective from January 2nd 2013 to March 31st 2013, when his contract expires.

Chairman Sean Walsh informed delegates that Fitzgerald will not be looking to extend his contract with the Munster Council despite last September provincial delegates having agreed to extend the former Limerick county board chairman’s contract for a further five years.

Clare native Moroney, who was appointed as head to the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee last year, will now take on the position in the Munster Council in an acting capacity until September 30th 2013.
