Sidelined: Tyson Gay out for rest of season

SPRINTER TYSON GAY will not run again this year, according to his manager.

The US world 100 metres silver medallist is suffering from a hip injury and will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on the injury.

It is the latest in a series of injuries for Gay, who was hoping to face the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt in the world championships in August, but had to withdraw because of the injury.

Meanwhile, Bolt has admitted he has not been at his best latelybut says he will do his utmost to avoid complacency.

The Jamaican, who is running in the 200 metres at the Paris Diamond Meeting tonight, told reporters:

“I can’t get complacent because Tyson Gay has dropped out. I’m working hard, I’m working back from injury so my focus is trying to get back to the Usain Bolt everybody knows and loves and for me, my goal is just to defend my title.”

The 24-year-old holds the 100m world record with a time of 9.58 seconds, the highest since digital time measurements were introduced.
