Sidelined: Sligo striker North out for the season

The free-scoring forward ruptured cruciate ligaments in the Europa League qualifier last night.

SLIGO ROVERS RECEIVED a major blow this afternoon as it was announced that they will be without the services of star striker Danny North for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old, who has scored 17 goals in 20 appearances for the Bit O’Red since joining from St Patrick’s Athletic at the start of the season, was forced off the pitch with an injury during last night’s Europa League exit at the hands of Spartak Trnava.

The player himself, who only signed a new contract at the club earlier this month, has confirmed today that he will undergo surgery after suffering cruciate ligament damage.

He tweeted:

Sligo, who lead the Airtricity League Premier Division by four points and play St Pat’s away on Sunday, have relied heavily on the Grimbsy native’s goals and will need Mark Quigley to continue the scoring form he has shown in recent weeks if they are to continue to push for a first title in 35 years.
