FRANCE’S MAHIEDINE MEKHISSI-BENABBAD was stripped of his gold medal and disqualified from the European athletics championships today after peeling off his shirt before he crossed the line in first place of the 3,000 metre steeplechase.
His compatriot Yoann Kowal was promoted to the gold medal position instead although the French delegation can lodge an appeal over Mekhissi’s exclusion.
The Spanish team had made the original protest over Mekhissi after a race in which their athlete Angel Mullera had finished fourth.
“I find that the protest lodged by the Spaniards is anti fair-play,” said Ghani Yalouzsa, the technical director of the French athletics federation.
Casey should be playing the ryder cup with the form he is in. Pity….

Casey chose not to play on the European tour. He just needed to play 5 times. Pity, he’s better than Westwood right now for sure..
True but it shows a lack of interest/commitment, shame alright, he had no problem coming back to Europe to play a couple of years ago when his career went into free fall, it was the Irish Open where he kickstarted his career again, decided Nov 15 he wasn’t going to bother playing the small number of tournaments required.
The anti Lee Westwood(all around social media) thing baffles me. He was in decent form when picked and if Clarke had left him out there would have been uproar and knives out to blame his exclusion on a defeat if it happened.
Absolutely. More so than bloody Westwood.
Why ? Last result aside, he has been in better form than several of the rookies (2 of them are not at the races at all at the moment) and his Ryder Cup record speaks for itself.
