Shelbourne apologise to fans after floodlight failure at Tolka Park

The FAI Cup third round replay with St Pat’s has been rescheduled for next Monday.

SHELBOURNE HAVE APOLOGISED to their own fans and St Patrick’s Athletic supporters after last night’s FAI Cup game was postponed.

The third round replay at Tolka Park was called off prior to kick-off after a blown transformer in the generator resulted in failure in some of the floodlights.

The match has been rescheduled for next Monday, 1 September, with an 8pm kick-off and the SSE Airtricity League First Division club have said sorry and thanked fans for their patience.

“Shelbourne FC would like to apologise to all our fans and those of St. Patrick’s Athletic who attended Tolka Park last night, only to have their evening spoiled by a floodlight failure,” the statement reads.

“All tickets will be valid for the rearranged game next Monday evening (ko 8pm) but should you wish to have a refund please note that our ticket hatch will be open from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm today, when refunds will be given on production of ticket.

“We would like to thank you for your understanding and patience last night.”

The league is becoming an embarrassment. I know these things happen but is there no back up plan? John Delaney earning his keep as usual.

Of course this would turn into something bigger. The Super Bowl was held up for an hour a couple years ago due to electricity not working, shit happens, get over it. It happens everywhere in the world but naturally “Irish football fans” can’t wait to have a go. If you don’t go to the games or support a team then your opinion is pointless.

Such a shame to see the state of general disrepair a once fine stadium tolka park is in only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured, riverside stand should be condemned, trees growing up through the stand behind the goal and now electrical faults why don’t the shels fans and club get together do a ground tidy up day like other clubs do or look to ground share with another club hard to attract fans with such poor facilities

After working in Tolka Park for two years and having no affliation to LOI football I said I’d go experience what it’s all about and In usual fashion it was all abit of a farce.
People running around clueless, a smoking fuse box which one steward attempted to put out with a jug of water,
the occasional explosion, and one overally aggressive head steward who pushed my girlfriend when she was returning to her seat.
I shouldn’t of expected anything else really.
I think I might enjoy my trip to Anfield in October abit more then I did last night.
I believe LOI fans call people like that barstoolers. Funny that I attended a LOI game and spent the evening watching Mk Dons Vs Manchester United in the stadium bar.

They don’t call people like you a barstooler . At least you go to matches including LOI matches .
