HE’S AN IRISH football legend and will forever have a place in fans’ hearts after a career between the posts for the Boys in Green.

But should Shay Given come out of international retirement to bolster our World Cup qualification hopes?

The out-of-favour Aston Villa man has indicated that he’s spoken with manager Giovanni Trapattoni and though he’ll not return for an upcoming friendly, he may make a comeback for the qualifier against Sweden in Stockholm.

“I have spoken to Giovanni and he knows I am available.” the Donegal man wrote in his column in the Irish Sun this weekend. ”He is going to stick with the new players against Poland and I understand that.

“Keiren Westwood, David Forde and Darren Randolph are the goalkeepers in the frame for that game. I wish them well. I am not looking to stand on their toes. But, as I told Giovanni, I am here if one of them gets injured.”

So… would you welcome Given back into the international set-up?
