SHANE LONG HAS been included in Giovanni Trapattoni’s 23-man squad for next week’s friendly with Greece in Dublin.
The West Brom striker was initially left out of the provisional squad for the Aviva Stadium friendly. But, after he came through 70 minutes of Premier League action last night, the Tipperary-born forward has now been included in Trap’s panel.
Four players have been placed on standby by Trap; Andy Keogh, Conor Clifford, Shane Duffy and Damien Delaney.

The squad are due to report for training in Dublin on Sunday morning.

No I don’t John. I tend to be a bit more realistic about our chances and not lampoon the team for not being able tp beat squads that are loaded with champions league players.
Compare the current squad with what we have had and the truth is that we just don’t have a team of superb players. All we can depend on is hard work, grit, team spirit and organization. We can argue all we like about team selection, and yes, I do want people like Long, McClean and Clark in there. But we must remember that these men are not world beaters playing for the worlds best clubs. They are honest professionals who will give their all in the green jersey. With that said, losing 6-1 to a team that has finished in the final 4 of every international tournament since 2006, was only surprising in that we showed no spirit at all.
