Shane Curran just announced his retirement from Gaelic football at 43 years of age

It’s the end of the road for Cake.

ONE OF THE GAA’s most colourful characters has called time on a remarkable career today.

Roscommon and St Brigid’s goalkeeper  Shane Curran has hung up his boots, he said on Off The Ball this afternoon.

Curran was clearly emotional after last weekend’s Connacht SFC defeat to Ballintubber.

The man affectionately known as Cake won a provincial minor medal in 1989 and an All-Ireland title with Brigid’s last year.

He also lined out for League of Ireland Athlone Town in the past.

Shane Curran names the top 5 attackers he’s faced during his career and why

Cork All-Ireland winning boss ‘Canon’ Michael O’Brien has died

He was excellent in goal for Athlone Town too. I always thought he would easily have been number one at a bigger club but the midlands location must have suited him for obvious reasons.
