Three is the magic number as Rovers land Conor Kenna from Pat's

The former Pats captain became Shamrock Rovers’ third signing of the week.

SHAMROCK ROVERS HAVE further strengthened their squad for the 2014 season with defender Conor Kenna signing a deal with the Hoops today.

The former St Patrick’s Athletic captain rejected an offer from the Airtricity League champions to put pen to paper on a two year deal with Trevor Croly’s side.

Kenna has extensive Airtricity League experience having made over 100 appearances each for both UCD and St Pat’s.

Speaking to TheScore.ie, the 28-year old said he had rejected advances from Rovers before but felt the time was right to make the move to Tallaght.

“I had a gut feeling this was the right year for me to move on.

“Liam [Buckley] was very good with the deal he offered me but [rejecting it] has nothing to do with money, it’s just a personal choice.

“I wouldn’t be signing if I didn’t think Rovers could go on and win things and I’ve worked with Trevor (Croly) before and liked what I’ve seen.”

Kenna’s phone has been hopping since the deal was announced and the reaction of his former team-mates has been positive.

“It’s like anything you get a mixed reaction. So far I’ve had a lot of the Pat’s lads wish me luck and wishing me well, obviously not wishing Rovers well, but me personally.

Kenna does understand why some fans may not be happy with the move.

“I understand the way it is for fans as well, it’s not nice but that’s the way the League of Ireland is and it’s going to be like that for a while.”

Kenna joins Simon Madden and Luke Byrne who also signed for Trevor Croly’s side this week as Rovers look to revamp the squad that finished 19 points off top spot in 2013.
