ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC and Sligo Rovers both recorded 5-0 wins tonight to progress to the last four of the Setanta Sports Cup tonight.
Two goals each from Mark Quigley and Conan Byrne were added to by a late strike from Daryl Kavanagh as the Saints saw off Ballinamallard United with ease after a 1-0 first leg victory.
At the Showgrounds, Sligo went into their quarter-final tie against Crusaders with a 4-1 advantage and got off to a great start thanks to Evan McMillan’s opener after 11 minutes.
Danny North and Liam Flatley both scored twice while Ross Gaynor wasted the chance of a brace by missing a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
In the night’s other quarter-final, Dundalk overturned a 3-2 first leg defeat at the hands of Coleraine by sealing a 2-0 victory away from home.
Paddy Hoban was the first name on the scoresheet on 51 minutes but the Lilywhites had to wait until injury-time for Stephen O’Donnell to pop up with the vital goal.
Stephen Kenny’s side will face either holders Shamrock Rovers or Glentoran (who play next Monday) in the semi-finals, while Sligo Rovers meet St Patrick’s Athletic.
