SERGIO GARCIA GOT off to an interesting start at Hoylake this afternoon as he began his second round pursuit of overnight leader Rory McIlroy.
The Spanish golfer began his day two shots back from McIlroy and opted to play it safe, and left, off the first tee. Unfortunately, his draw never straightened up and his drive ended up on a neighbouring fairway.
Garcia bogeyed that hole and dropped back to -3 but was soon to redeem himself. From all of 160 yards back, the 34-year-old executed a perfect approach that disappeared into the cup for an eagle two.
As if that was not enough excitement, Garcia bogeyed the next hole before getting a par on the fourth. He birdied the par five fifth to go in for a share of the lead after McIlroy bogeyed his opening hole.
