UEFA HAS DECIDED that neither team will earn any points from the recent Euro 2016 Group I qualifier between Serbia and Albania in Belgrade on 14 October.
Despite awarding Serbia a 3-0 win because they deemed Albania to have forfeited the game, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has taken the decision to deduct the hosts three points and ordered them to play their next two home games – against Denmark and Armenia – behind closed doors.
Both the Serbian and Albanian FA have been fined €100,000 after home fans invaded the pitch and attacked Albania players following the flying of a Greater Albania flag from a drone in the stadium.
The Albanian FA will has already announced a decision to appeal the disciplinary action with coach Gianni De Biazi saying:
“The UEFA commission’s decision does not give justice. The three points belong to Albania and they’ve taken away from us what we’ve deserved.”
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama also took to Twitter to slam UEFA’s decision Friday to award Serbia a 3-0 win.
“Today the justice has not been served regarding what had happened at the Belgrade stadium,” Rama said on Twitter profile.
Rama backed the decision of Albanian Football Federation to appeal against the UEFA sanctions.
