Shefflin and Murphy win September player of the month awards

The All-Ireland Final efforts of the duo have been duly recognised.

KILKENNY’S HENRY SHEFFLIN and Donegal’s Michael Murphy have been awarded the GAA GPA Players of the Month for September.

Both selections, chosen by the inter-county playing body, recognise the pair’s starring roles in their respective All-Ireland final triumphs recently.

Shefflin fired 0-12 when he dragged Kilkenny back into contention in their drawn All-Ireland final against Galway before then notching 0-9 in their 3-22 to 3-11 replay win over the Tribesmen.

That ensured Shefflin claimed his ninth All-Ireland senior medal whereas Murphy was part of a triumphant All-Ireland winning team for the first time when Donegal got the better of Mayo by 2-11 to 0-13.

The Glenswilly man captained the team and set the tone by banging home a terrific early goal before going on to add four further points over the course of the match.
