Semi-naked, drunk AFL players terrorize Thai police

Gold Coast Suns teammates Campbell Brown and Maverick Weller were arrested after becoming involved in a brawl on the island of Phangan.

AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALLERS aren’t typically noted for their manners and public decorum, but even by the relatively relaxed standards of their chosen sport, Gold Coast Suns duo Campbell Brown and Maverick Weller (his actual name!) have hit something of a low.

The pair were arrested on the Thai island of Phangan yesterday after becoming involved in a bar brawl with an Australian tourist and– this is where it gets tricky– and off-duty policeman.

The photo that accompanies this post appears to show a “distressed” and semi-naked Brown in police custody following the incident.

A spokesperson for the Gold Coast Suns has since released a statement expressing the club’s reluctance to put disciplinary measures in place before interviewing the players individually.

“The players will return from their holiday over the weekend, where the club will meet with them to determine all the facts. Once we are in possession of all of the facts we will be in a position to decide on the appropriate course of action. It is important in situations like this that the club follows due process and doesn’t pre-judge the matter.”

This incident isn’t entirely without precedent; the Western Bulldogs were filmed causing mayhem on the streets of Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong party district in November of last year.
