THE SECOND CAPTAINS team have confirmed their live TV show has been commissioned for a second series by RTE bosses. The run of programmes will begin in March.
“Thanks as always for all your messages & support. News on tickets to series 2 shows & potential striptease routines for @hicksimon very soon,” they wrote this morning.
Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early and Ciarán Murphy starred on-screen in the first series of four shows, beginning last September, while Mark Horgan and Hick took up production duties.
The team have delivered a bi-weekly podcast since their Newstalk departure last March.
Great, hopefully they can have a longer, more permanent run so they can open with a bit more banter about the sports news of the past few days. before getting into interviews.
Yay!
More of Ken Early’s rabbit in headlights look!
Dropping the Simon Hick ‘skit’ can only improve the show
Agreed, along with less games & more interviews while keeping them serious but a bit of banter thrown in. McDevitt to be fair is a very good interviewer!
The lads had the best radio sports show ever but the format on TV is crap they look like something is just about to go wrong all the time
I didn’t think it was as good as the radio show/podcasts. The lads looked a bit wooden
I for one enjoy OTB more since they left. They spent too much time messing and trying to be funny and not enough time properly discussing the sport. They used to have a better balance but started to think they were all comedians in latter years
I agree mike, too many ego’s not enough sport
Each to their own I suppose but I enjoy the banter and dynamic between them as much as the sport talk. Regularly listen to their podcasts.
Egos? Isn’t Ger Gilroy still there?
And Colm Parkinson?
Nice one
Can’t get enough of these lads. “Do they ever go to bed those lads.” Joe Duffy. Miss the lads live on the radio and the Podcast is not to be missed. Great chemistry between all off them well researched and mighty Craic. @secondcaptains
They never go home, They never go home, They never go home those boys!!
Well done lads . Went to the pilot show in RTE .great crack on the night .must go again sometime
They’re just waiting to see what Top Gear are planning for next season so they can rip that off too…..
Top Gear is absolute rubbish for immature boy racers- wouldn’t take any quality to better that cr@p. Having said that, the tv programme wasn’t as good as the radio one
TG,It is one of the most widely viewed shows in the world, immature boy racers??? Go away ya muppet
Just shows the world is full of immature boy racers maybe like yourself Fonzo
Ya I’m going boy racing there now in a hour if you want I can collect you on the way.
No thanks
Podcast’s are AWESOME !!!
I didn’t see the first captains!…………… TAXI!!!!!
Neither did I. I still reckon they must really regret waking out of radio when they did. I suppose it’s what happens when people believe their own hype.
Don’t know – OTB nowhere near as good as their podcast IMO.
The guys are badly missed on Newstalk. I don’t even like sport but listened to the lads every night they were on. Great dynamic between them
Different class…….
Yeah, they’ve just had a second series of their very popular show on RTE commissioned. I’d say they’re absolutely sickened.
Awful, awful show. Dreadful stuff. Pure fresh steaming brown turd of a show
Football show podcasts twice a week are great, only listen to OTB on a Thursday night to see who John Giles currently thinks is a good/ not a good pro Ger!
Great to see Second captains back
More crap on TV
Ciaran murphys nerdy cringe annoying jokes are getting well tired now, ditch him and improve the show…
Big fan of the podcast but missed out on the TV show last time. Heard it was a bit flat. Would love to see the team in the studio on European nights in a Gilette Soccer Saturday type format but with multi sport interviews and sections.
OTB now us good, apart from the Adrian whatshisname bloke who presents the show on the odd Saturday who is painfully dumb and opinionated and also he is dumb interviewer. Second captains is good also but then they have a tool also in richie sadlier who is somehow perceived as been an expert on football when he played only for a lower mid tier championship team in england and made ONE appearance for the ROI. Why can’t they use Ronnie Whelan or any number of established world class footballers we have had over the last 25 years? OTB is the show I would listen too, especially their football road shows and the great Johnny Giles.
I’d be a fan of OTB too Patrick ; couldn’t agree with your comment about Richie Sadlier though. Career ended @ 23 or 24 by injury, so didn’t get a chance to have a long or top class career. Is every bit as good as most of the spoofers on BBC or Sky anyway, but I grant you he obviously wouldn’t have the experience of Ronnie Whelan or Johnny Giles
Peadar, I accept your point however I am of the view that for all the reason’s you stated richie sadlier has not got the credentials to be a panelist on RTE or supposedly an expert analyst for a national Sunday newspaper. He did not play at any level of note and Paul McGrath, Kevin Moran, Ronnie Whelan to name just 3 individuals would have a lot more credibility in my eyes. It just goes to show that ‘the jobs for the boys’ is still alive and well in RTE and corporate Ireland. In reference to the sky and UK analysts I would agree that they are hopeless but then they have always been hopeless.sadlier was an average player in an average English league and is in my opinion a very average football analyst.
By your rationale Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger shouldn’t have jobs either ?
John, Mourinho learnt his trade under Bobby Robson at FC Porto and studied the game for an extended period of time and knows how to motivate football millionares, as does Wenger. So by your reckoning Richie Sadlier could manage Chelsea FC or Arsenal FC? I think not. You took my argument out of context whih is what you will but if you feel that Kevin Moran, Ronnie Whelan or McGrath (amongst others) are not more worthy analysts then Richie Sadlier to be on an RTE football panel based on what they achieved in football as compared to Sadlier’s very limited championship english league experience, then in my opinion you are living in cloud cuckoo land.
Patrick, I accept what you say & agree that there are plenty former international players who would do a good “punditing” job. However I don’t follow your argument that Richie Sadlier’s position is a “jobs for the boys” thing. How did he come to be so favoured ?
peadar,
my point exactly. how can sadlier to start with, be percieved by anyone in RTE to be judged an accomplished voice on football when he played only for a lower mid tier championship team in england and made ONE appearance for the ROI? the answer to that can only be that he knew someone who knows someone who is connected in RTE who wiill give him the gig. If anyone can say that he is more suitable then someone like Ronnie Whelan or indeed anyone who played at a consistently higher level over a longer period of time then I would strongly disagree. Only an opinion mate but you have to play the game to know the game and at a national level (RTE) for one to provide expert analysis a Johnny Giles, Liam Brady or Hamman fit the bill. richie sadlier’s analysis on a match or anything related, is for me is about as credibile as a bloke (Joe Bloggs) voicing an opinion down the pub.
