SEBASTIAN VETTEL HAS WON his fourth successive Formula One world championship after cruising to victory in India.
The German needed a fifth place finish or better to claim another world title but shot past teammate Mark Webber to capture his 10th race win of the season.
Vettel’s victory was never in doubt as a faulty alternator soon saw Webber pull to one side of the track and out of the race. The Australian is winless thus far in 2013. Vettel’s fortunes have been a polar opposite and the 26-year-old’s victory confirmed his place in pantheon of Grand Prix greats.
The Red Bull driver’s closest challenger was Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, who needed to win to prolong the title race/procession into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Spaniard was stuck in a midfield dogfight, however, after qualifying well down the grid. He eventually trailed in 11th.
The victory for Vettel also sealed the Constructors’ Championship for Red Bull.
