KILDARE FOOTBALLER SEAN Hurley could still be on course for an AFL career with Fremantle as the Western Australian club are targeting the Lilywhite as a signing next October.
Hurley trained with Fremantle before last year’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft but was not selected.
However the AFL’s website is reporting that the club and Hurley are working towards an agreement that would see him begin a career at Fremantle at the end of 2014 after his GAA season has ended.
The 22-year-old Johnstownbridge club man first came to the attention of AFL scouts when attending the 2012 Draft Combine before returning last year for a trial with the Dockers.
Hurley’s club mate Daniel Flynn was recruited by Port Adelaide last year before returning to Ireland recently due to homesickness and his grandfather’s health difficulties.
The loss of Hurley would be a setback for Kildare football as he has started all five Division 1 football league games to date this season for Jason Ryan’s side.
