IRELANDโS SEAN GREENWOOD suffered a bad crash during the skeleton event at the Winter Olympics in Sochi today.
Greenwood had gotten off to a decent start, finding himself in 21st place after the first heat, with a time of 57.99.
His second effort was less successful, however. Greenwood was more than seven seconds slower than his initial attempt, partially due to a bad accident in which he came close to coming off his sled but somehow managed to continue on.
The accident meant he came in last place (27th) in the second heat, yet the Irish representative still gained plenty of acclaim for persevering despite this painful-looking setback.
Greenwood was estimated to have been travelling at 74 MPH when the crash occurred, which emphasises the skill it took simply to stay on the sled.
He competes again tomorrow at 2.45pm Irish time.
Been tough to get a look in with the guys he has ahead of him!
One of the most hard done by players in Irish rugby after John Cooney. Some players face clearly doesnโt fit, while others get chance after chance playing average!
@Darren Mullins: orโฆ..there are just better players in his position. Which one of the current Lions centres who play 12 for Ireland have had โchance after chanceโ keeping McC out of the team?
@Darren Mullins: Dunno, got done by Scannel last time they played. Donโt think he has it for top flight, and what was Cooney doing for the previous 7 years when no one knew his name? Certainly a heap of other Ulster players with great potential in front of them.
@Ricky Wright: aki and henshaw both play 12 for club and country. They are both just better than McCloskey. He done something to piss Joe S off and with farrell as assistant whatever it was had an effect on him also.
