Evans into World Championship last 16 (and he's up against the world's best player next)

Dubliner won the last 11 points to beat David Obernosterer 21-7, 21-18 in Copenhagen today.

SCOTT EVANS WILL face a showdown against world number one Lee Chong Wei at the Badminton World Championships tomorrow.

The Irish number one booked his place in the last 16 with a straight games win over David Obernosterer in Copenhagen earlier today.

After taking the first game against his Austrian opponent, Evans fell 18-10 behind in the second.

But he rallied to finish with 11 unanswered points to secure a 21-7, 21-18 win.

Malaysia’s Lee, twice a runner-up at both the Olympic Games and the World Championships, needed just half an hour to beat Dieter Domke of Germany 21-12, 21-9.

Evans and Lee have met on three previous occasions with Lee winning all three, including their most recent encounter at last year’s World Championships.

Robert Hendrick has won Ireland’s latest medal at the Youth Olympics
