Saturday Night Lights: Dubs return to Croker for 2012 "Spring Series"

Dublin GAA have announced details of three Croke Park double-headers for the 2012 National Football and Hurling League campaigns.

DUBLIN’S FOOTBALLERS AND hurlers will be heading “home” to Croke Park for the 2012 Allianz League campaigns after the county board relaunched its crowd-pleasing “Spring Series” this afternoon.

Over 100,000 fans flocked to Headquarters for last year’s series and following that response, Dublin have announced three more double-headers for this season, kicking off with an All-Ireland grudge match between Dublin and Kerry under floodlights on Saturday 4 February.

The Division Two meeting of Kildare and Tyrone will serve as the curtain-raiser that evening, an arrangement which has annoyed some Kildare season ticket holders who will incur extra expense for the county’s decision to “forfeit” a home fixture.

The series’ other two double-headers are all Dublin affairs. On 11 March, the capital’s hurlers face Cork and the footballers host Armagh, while on 24 March, the Tipperary hurlers and the Donegal footballers are the visitors.

Single tickets for each night will cost €13 for adults and €5 for children, while three-night packages will be available for €30 for adults and €10 for children. Profits from tickets sales will be used to develop Dublin’s GAA grassroots, with €1 out of every €3 returned to the capital’s 91 clubs as part a new revenue sharing initiative.

Irish artists The Rubberbandits and Ham Sandwich have been lined up to perform at the first two events, with a third and final act expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The series will be “a great carnival event that will appeal to families as well as those Dublin fans who regularly attend games,” Dublin County Board CEO John Costello said today.

We understand that money is tight for many people at the moment so we have priced tickets as competitively as we possibly can so everyone has the opportunity to come along and enjoy themselves, watch our great national games and soak up the atmosphere.
