AFTER A BACK and forth morning where Europe just about held onto their advantage, eventually coming out 6.5-5.5 on top, the home team have taken control in the afternoon foursomes as they currently lead in three of the four contests.
After losing their morning fourball, Lee Westwood and Jamie Donaldson have come out strong in the foursomes and are currently 2-up against Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar through 12. The European pair have made three birdies so far.
In the second match, American rookie pairing Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed are once again repaying Tom Watson’s faith in them as they lead Justin Rose and Martin Kaymer by two through eleven holes.
The third foursomes match is also going Europe’s way at the moment, as Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy lead by one against Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan after nine. Furyk and Mahan comprehensively won their morning match but are narrowly behind to the European duo who rescued a late half-point for their team against Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker yesterday evening.
The final match is where Europe are really excelling as yesterday’s winners, Graeme McDowell and Victor Dubuisson, are 5-up against Jimmy Walker and Rickie Fowler through eight. The European pair have birdied three of the first eight holes to take a commanding lead.
