Rugby World Cup officials cancel plans for 3D coverage

Scheme is abandoned after production company fails to meet its commitments.

NEXT SEPTEMBER’S RUGBY World Cup will not be shown in 3D it has emerged, after production company 3D Live was unable to meet its production commitments.

However, according to the tournament’s official website, there will still be a number of innovative features introduced during the tournament, including 5.1 surround sound and the use of changing room cameras.

RWCL Chairman Bernard Lapasset expressed his disappointment that the initial plan to show matches in 3D would not be going ahead, saying:

“On confirmation of 3D Live’s position, we explored every option to try to make production viable. However, with so little time remaining before the tournament kicks off we all agreed that cancelling the 3D programme was the most appropriate decision for the Tournament.”

It was also been confirmed that the tournament, which begins on 9 September, will show all 48 matches in high definition.
