Dear RTE

Watched the Match last Friday online – great.

This week can we have the score permanently on the screen and NOT flashed up every half hour.

Yeah but only showing a real interest in it now,

Its like any sport with women in it, be it boxing, athletics, rugby, the likes of rte only show an interest with the women are winning in it. Up until then they ignore women in sport for the most part.

To be fair, people ignore most sports when we’re not winning. Remember when the Ireland cricket team beat England in the World Cup? Most people didn’t know we had a cricket team before that.

Why all the red thumbs? Fair few people might want to watch both. Or is there no sporting ecumenism in this country?

Why? Fair play to RTE for showing Sundays game but let’s be honest here, RTE have to show what people wish to see. When it comes to Sport RTE is top class . This week for example, they have Cheltenham coverage, 3 live 6 nations games, an u-20s rugby game, the club all Ireland’s both hurling and football aswell as league of Ireland game live on Friday. The channel have now topped this off with the irish women’s rugby game in Milan. RTE when it comes to sports coverage is brilliant but calling for every women’s rugby international to be screened live is asking a bit to much. Why not show all women’s soccer internationals or every game in the camogie championship. Last year less than 0.0001% of the population even knew when Ireland were playing Italy in ladies rugby… Now everybody wants to see it live, a little bit of realism please

Women’s rugby has come along way in the last few years, they deserve more credit for achieving so much in such a short time. If their male counterparts had done as well as the ladies their would be much over-hiped media coverage, and yet there was very little media coverage of women’s rugby

A new low? So broadcasting a rugby match is worse than calling someone a paedophile without any proof whatsoever?
