NEWSREADERS OF IRELAND, beware – Twitter is watching your every move.
The social media website jumped to life earlier this afternoon following an unfortunate error during the sports section of the RTÉ News at One.
In a feature on John Higgins’ 18-15 victory over Judd Trump in the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield last night, the four-time world champion was incorrectly described as the son of sporting legend Alex “Hurricane” Higgins who died last year at the age of 61. The two men are not related.
Realising the mistake, the broadcaster deleted the segment from the news before uploading it to their website. The amended footage can be seen here, with the very end of the Higgins package still visible just after 15:40.
However, RTÉ’s mistake did not go completely unnoticed with a number of vigilant Twitter users flagging the error. Some of the tweets are included below.
