MANY COMMENTATORS WERE unimpressed with how Jose Mourinho and Chelsea went about their business in the Champions League last night, and the RTÉ panel were no exception.
John Giles said Mourinho was “trying to be a bit of a genius” with his team selection, while Liam Brady pointed out that even at Real Madrid, the Special One struggled to play attacking football.
Eamon Dunphy, meanwhile, was the most vociferous of all in his criticism, saying “every stage show has its sell-by-date,” and suggesting Mourinho no longer had “the respect of his peers in the game”.
Sure Fergie had had his day back in 05 apparently. Worst thing about these big matches is that pundits make conclusive judgements based on one 90 minute game. The night before it was concluded that the possesion game is dead. If Chelsea had won last night then Mourihno would of been praised for his ‘bold’ selection instead of trusting the likes of Oscar. All reactionary BS at the end of the day, last Sunday Mourihno was a genuis, today he is finished. Especially ironic coming from Brady who threw the toys out of the pram when Wenger was questioned after going a lot longer without a hint of success.
I always liked this trio…it’s a bit different so to speak, but after watching Jamie Carragher’s Chelsea-Liverpool match analysis I was gobsmacked how interesting and professional it was…the man has a true knowledge of the game. Now last nights post match analysis was the same…lot of words and nothing informative.
The Carragher / Neville act is professional because they wear a suit and rarely make bold comments. Granted they do give some interesting insight to the pitch-side tactics etc. with their big touch screen but the “discussion” feels very formulated and stale.
I’ve been surprised how enjoyable they are to watch but there is a bit of a lack of atmosphere or feeling to the show.
The RTE panel sometimes phone it in during poor matches but the discussion is usually lively and there is a good balance in styles.
If chelsea had won Mr nodwell, ‘IF’!! If Kelly brook sat on my face I’d be a happy man and as Liam Brady once said if me aunt had balls shed be me uncle! That’s hypothetical which jack
Moyes broke all the wrong records & had UTD’s worst season in decades and what does John Giles say “they should’ve gave him another season so he can put his own stamp on it”
Munich win the league by a record points margin, in the cup final & got to the semis of the CL ! Only 1 defeat until they won the league ! & what does Giles say about Pep “get rid of him and get back last years manager”
That’s quality analyst for ya !!!
So if you let Giles run your club he would keep moyes in the job and sack Pep !
He also claimed Modric didn’t get a look in under Jose at Real.
It took 5 seconds to check and see that Modric played 53 times in all competitions last year with Real, starting 36 of them. He just simply wasn’t playing as well. Not really surprising he’s playing better this year given it’s his second season.
Chippy Brady simply has a MASSIVE chip on his shoulder with Jose. The majority of his complaints about him don’t pass the most basic of tests.
Are half ye lads working for sky or what. Jesus gary neville and jamie Carragher are great pundits but they are not as orgasmic with their punditry as some of ye make them out to be. I’m paying enough for sky as it is and I enjoy MNF as much as the next man but I don’t want sky to keep raising up their prices and amount of football on offer decreasing. Great punditry isn’t going to make me want to keep paying for sky sports. At the end of the day I’m a football fan and it’s the football I want to see.
A tactical genius my arse, he’s a laughing stock .. He slated big Sam for parking the bus when west ham got a scoreless draw at Stamford bridge , he goes and does the same at anfield , destroyed what should of been game of the season .. The man is a spoofer and a clown
Yea you right, I’m getting fed up of José’ antics now also. It was funny and amusing at the start but some of the carry on especially towards the end of this year was a bit much.
The three boys offer a different view. I’d prefer them over that MOTD crowd every day. Great drama on view. Football politics is the toughest type of politics because everyone has a different opinion.
Keep Giles…get rid of the other two wasters. How could any body take Brady seriously after his backing of Trappatoni and as for Dunphy how can he be taken seriously in any case. Gift Grub has his box ticked.
Brian Kerr actually watches football. Its quite obvious Dunphy and Giles dont. The research department are idiotic. Given the lack of respect shown by Rte for Ga and soccer Its obvious there all only interested in rugger
Kerr is awful to listen to, but that said, his knowledge can’t be questioned, Ireland’s best national manager, excluding O’Neill for now, with a win rate of around 53% and done a great job with the Faroese, bring him back.
Rte in general needs a good clearout of the dinosaurs.
The majority of the stuff they show is absolute crap aimed at the over 60′s.
They haven’t changed with the times at all.
These three chaps – good players before some of us were born. But why try to have another life on TV. All predictable stuff – hope they don’t make RIO. Probably not, none of them played in a WC, anywhere….

“Every stage show has a sell by date”. Time to heed your own advice lads?
And who will replace them? Kenny Cunningham and Trevor Stevens!
Careful what you wish for….
That’s how I actually read the headline…. I thought it was an article about the lads “sell by date”
I think Richie Sadlier isn’t bad
Plenty of retired Irish players who could do a good job
He’s shocking. Only bad part of second captains
Bill’s gone after the WC , Darragh Maloney with take over then
An ironic comment coming from them.
We’ve been looking at the 3 amigos since at least Italia 90 and it’s getting tiresome.
What three would you replace them with Chris, out of curiosity?
Moyes broke all the wrong records & had UTD’s worst season in decades and what does John Giles say “they should’ve gave him another season so he can put his own stamp on it”

If pep was manager of utd he would be sacked now its the players not the manager, everyone knows that the players wanted moyes out
He also claimed Modric didn’t get a look in under Jose at Real.

All of Real Madrid’s players have improved since Jose ‘Mr Semi-Final’ Mourinho left. The players appear to be far happier also.
But that’s it though, isn’t it Gary? They are just so lazy.
They get a fair amount a money for what many would consider a dream job.
They could at least check wikipedia, or even read a team sheet for gods sake!
Are half ye lads working for sky or what. Jesus gary neville and jamie Carragher are great pundits but they are not as orgasmic with their punditry as some of ye make them out to be. Great punditry isn’t going to make me want to keep paying for sky sports. At the end of the day I’m a football fan and it’s the football I want to see.
Thats what firstrow is for so we don’t have to pay for sky
Funny Dunphy mentioned sell by date..
Boo hoo. Destroyed what should have been game of the season. That’s a typical barstool reply.
The three boys offer a different view. I’d prefer them over that MOTD crowd every day. Great drama on view. Football politics is the toughest type of politics because everyone has a different opinion.
Last night was pure bull from the three amigos.
Definitely outdated analysis on RTE with new blood certainly required.
Paralysis by analysis.
Keep Giles…get rid of the other two wasters. How could any body take Brady seriously after his backing of Trappatoni and as for Dunphy how can he be taken seriously in any case. Gift Grub has his box ticked.
Its show business Baby !!!
I think the boys are becoming victims of their own popularity.
Brilliant !!
In fairness Giles has a great grasp of the obvious!!!! I think
‘Every show has a sell by date’ -is it time Eamon, Liam and John should take the stage door left?
And this stage show is outdated too
Sick to death of people hating on Marino. It’s by far the best sheep.
Brian Kerr actually watches football. Its quite obvious Dunphy and Giles dont. The research department are idiotic. Given the lack of respect shown by Rte for Ga and soccer Its obvious there all only interested in rugger

dnt think they care bout rugby either I mean they couldn’t even outbid tv3 for d World Cup very sad
The stage show that is the RTE panel is ‘past its sell by-date’
Rte in general needs a good clearout of the dinosaurs.
The majority of the stuff they show is absolute crap aimed at the over 60′s.
They haven’t changed with the times at all.
These three chaps – good players before some of us were born. But why try to have another life on TV. All predictable stuff – hope they don’t make RIO. Probably not, none of them played in a WC, anywhere….
Be very careful what you wish for we could be stuck with Jason Macateer on a more permanent basis
I think hose four have also past there sell by date!!
What Pundits Rte balls
