RTÉ HAVE DENIED claims they have yet to apologise to Mickey Harte over a controversial skit, which offended the GAA manager.

Tyrone boss Harte refused all interviews with the station after the John Murray Show broadcast the sketch, which aired only months after his daughter Michaela tragically passed away.

A report in today’s Irish Daily Star claims Harte was considering renewing his relationship with the national broadcaster if he received a personal phone call and apology from a representative of the John Murray Show, with a source claiming that “no-one from those involved in the programme picked up the phone to talk to him” following the controversy.

However, a spokesperson for RTÉ told TheScore.ie that “Clare Duignan, MD RTÉ Radio, and John Murray, both called Mr Harte personally at the time”.

Harte had previously sent a letter to the broadcaster, which criticised the skit and also bemoaned the “disproportionate absence of Brian Carthy from his role as a radio commentator” for key GAA matches.

Tyrone PRO Damian Harvey also claimed Mickey Harte “received no direct apology from the persons to whom his widely publicised letter was addressed,” and added that the county board themselves had not imposed a ban on RTÉ.
