'We're not One Direction': Roy draws a line under that hotel incident

The Ireland assistant refused to answer questions on the altercation last Wednesday night.

ROY KEANE DREW a line under the Ireland team hotel row and insisted that it would not have an impact on the squad’s future preparations.

Keane batted away questions when he met the media in Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links on Sunday morning.

When asked if he was prepared to discuss Wednesday’s events, Ireland’s assistant shook his head and simply said: “No, I’m not.”

Manager Martin O’Neill labelled the incident on the eve of the departure for Scotland “a distraction” but Keane said it won’t change the team’s usual routine in North Dublin.

He said: “No. We go into Malahide, we’ve a coffee, it’s fine. We went out last night for dinner, it’s fine.

“We’re not One Direction.”

Gardai and an ambulance were called to the team’s Portmarnock base on Wednesday following an incident involving Keane and a member of the public.

It was reported that the man, who is known to Keane, asked him to sign a copy of his autobiography and he refused.

The man was taken to Beaumont Hospital but it is understood that his injuries were not serious. The FAI and manager Martin O’Neill released a statement on Wednesday evening to clarify “inaccurate media reports” and to state their full support for Keane

Gardai opened an investigation but with no official complaint lodged by either party, the matter now looks to be at a close.
