Roy Keane dismisses Man United Van Gaal assistant link - 'I've got a job. I'm very happy in my job.'

Keane insisted he is not currently harbouring hopes of a returning to Manchester United.

ROY KEANE HAS dismissed speculation linking him with an assistant manager role if Louis Van Gaal takes over at Manchester United and insists he is happy with his current position with Ireland.

Van Gaal has been touted as the favourite to take over at Old Trafford since David Moyes was sacked last week with Keane rumoured to be a potential number two along side the Dutch man.

Yet the Cork native told Today FM’s Ray D’Arcy Show this morning that he is satisfied with his current lot.

“People keep asking me ironically about other jobs. I’ve got a job. I’m very happy in my job. I feel very lucky to be back involved in the Irish setup.

“(It’s a) tough draw. We’re looking forward to the (Euro qualifying) games. We’ve a few games coming at the end of May and early June, a tour to the States.

“(It’s) another chance to get a look at the players. We’re obviously learning a lot about the players and looking to bring some young lads through. I feel lucky to be back involved. We’re looking to help the team to qualify.”

Keane insisted he is not currently harbouring hopes of a returning to Manchester United in a management capacity.

“No, I don’t think like that. I was at a match on Friday and at a match on Saturday. I’m up in the stand looking at it, thinking ‘I’d love to have a team’. Then I got back in the car and I spoke Martin (O’Neill) on Saturday night.

“Then I’m thinking that I’m delighted to be working with Martin and Seamus (McDonagh) and the other staff. You have to be careful what you wish for. I’m always not thinking too far ahead if at all possible. I’m just focusing on helping Ireland qualify.”

Keane revealed he probably won’t talk to his former manager Alex Ferguson again, when asked if he could see himself reconciling with the Scot after high-profile fallout.

“I’m not sure. Probably not. I’ve said that about other people before. Football is a funny old game. You get a clash of personalities sometimes. It’s something that’s not in my mind at the moment to be honest with you.”
