Roy Keane won't be hanging oyut with Eamon Dunphy anytime soon. Donall Farmer/INPHO

Roy Keane had a gentle dig at Eamon Dunphy last night

“They’ve played at a decent level. Well, two of them have played at a decent level,” he joked.

ROY KEANE HAS played down the RTÉ panel’s recent criticism of Ireland’s performance against Germany and had a gentle dig at ghostwriter of his first autobiography, Eamon Dunphy, in the process.

Speaking in a public interview to promote The Second Half, Keane said:

“Do you know what? It’s just an opinion. It’s what football is about. These guys are entitled to their opinion.”

He added, with a smile. “They’ve played at a decent level. Well, two of them have played at a decent level.”

And when asked about his relationship with Dunphy in particular, Keane said: ”I never see him. If I saw him, I’d probably say hello but we never see each other. I don’t socialise where he goes, thank God.”

Opinion: In defence of the much-maligned Glenn Whelan>

I think it was a brilliant dig. He would never be in social circles of dunphy the culchie :) dunphy would only ever be famous in a country like Ireland where everyone supports another countries league

That’s a dig Henry shefflin, Johnny Murtagh, Aidan O’Brien, ruby walsh or Brian Cody would be proud of.

The LOI would be a lot better if it started getting the support and funding, but all Irish football “fans” go and watch the premier league week in week out without even giving the LOI a go.

If it was better supported and thus funded, the likes of Doyle, Andrews, duff etc could have the option to come back here later in their careers to be near their families etc. We could enjoy their skills and the economy would also benefit from their tax paying and spending generally etc

Are these the same fans who threw bottles and rocks at the marchers in the love ulster parade, that wear Celtic jerseys when they play, that spend €60/€70 on an English premiership jersey and call their team “WE” when talking about them to their friends. But yet they will cheer for everyone except England in every competition. Support your local club in Ireland and leave the premiership to the ejjits who spend a fortune flying over to watch a bunch of over paid 2nd rate players.
