Celtic will be back in Champions League action by mid-July. Mike Egerton

Celtic job too good for Roy to turn down, says Andrews

“For Roy, I don’t think there could be a better job,” Irish international midfielder Keith Andrews said.

THE CELTIC JOB will be too good for Roy Keane to turn down if offered it, Keith Andrews said.

It emerged this evening that Celtic’s majority shareholder Dermot Desmond has spoken to Keane about the possibility of taking over at the Scottish champions.

And Irish international Andrews said: “I don’t think he could actually pick a better job to rebuild his reputation as a manager.”

Keane is now seen as the prohibitive favourite for the Celtic Park hotseat and rocketed to the top of a shortlist that also includes Owen Coyle, Malky Mackay and David Moyes.

In a statement, the Glasgow giants said that they are continuing discussions “with a number of excellent candidates.”

But their season begins on 15/16 July in the second qualifying round of the Champions League — less than seven weeks away — which adds a bit of urgency to the process.

The decision to build a bridge with the FAI and come on board as Martin O’Neill’s number two has paid immediate dividends for Keane, Andrews told Newstalk’s Off the Ball.

“He has been linked with this job on what he has done with Ireland. That has only been seven months, and they have only been together on two or three occasions.

I don’t think he would have been getting most of these jobs six, seven, eight months ago because he wasn’t getting linked with jobs.

He added: “If hypothetically it was a Championship team coming down asking to speak to Roy Keane, I would be saying no.

“I would definitely persevere, do the campaign with the national team and try to build [his reputation] up even more; learn from Martin, learn from the experience that he has in the game, and how he goes about things.

“But Celtic, I just think the draw of a club like that playing in the Champions League and the chance to get a league or two under your belt as a manager, I think that might be too big of a draw for him.”

‘It seemed like he wasn’t going anywhere in a hurry’ – Doyle surprised by Keane speculation

To be honest, I think he should stay. Celtic isn’t as big a job as everyone seems to think. He needs to stay and achieve something before he can be linked with the big jobs he aspires to

How is a club who get an average of 45000+ every week at their games and have the most supporters clubs in the world not a big club? Like it or not after Utd and Liverpool, Celtic are the 3rd biggest club in the UK

As I said before, if he goes, after a couple of international friendlies, he’ll have walked away from Ireland for good…. An absolutely formidable player, one of the best centre mids the world has seen, but his managerial skills need tutelage from Martin, so a few years under his wing would do him the world of good, it’s not like he’s set the world alight in the managerial side of football, but if he goes, in my eyes he’ll never be the same….. I don’t get it when people here are wishing him the best of luck, if you were the FAI wouldn’t you not find it a right kick in the balls? The man has been out of a job for a couple of years, and then after a handful of games he’s going to walk off somewhere else? HOWEVER…… I don’t think Roy will go….. Pray to eff-ing god!!

It’s ironic that so many comments slate the Scottish League.

Obviously contrasting it to the Premier League as opposed to our domestic league.

Ipswich and Sunderland don’t compare with Celtic, O Neill has no hard feelings and Delaney has got nice PR out of it.

Champions League nights look pretty special at Celtic Park. Roy didn’t turn down punditry for the CL final so he is unlikely to turn down the opportunity to manage a team in the competition.

I’d have my doubts about things working with Keane and O Neill anyway ,an assistants press conference bigger than the managers doesn’t bode well! Irish football needs a miracle right now the Roy Keane sideshow is unnecessary.

Celtic could easily be out of the CL by September ( let’s face it – they’re not very good ) and without the Rangers games there isn’t much going on up there . Roy the attention seeker will walk after one season .

If celtic were seriously looking at a good manager Keane would be the last name on the list.look at his track record as a manager, speaks for itself .moyes or mackay far better options, experience and proven pedigrees.

The Ireland project is something that he needs to do to put his Saipan regrets to bed. Doesn’t take much for that to be a bigger job than the “Judy without Punch Show” which is the Scottish Premier League. COYBIG
