Roddy Doyle: Keane was fantastic to work with right down to the proof-reading

The Ireland assistant manger’s ghost writer has called collaborating on the new book a ‘great experience’.

RODDY DOYLE SAYS he thoroughly enjoyed working with Roy Keane on his upcoming book and has praised the Ireland assistant manager’s professionalism.

‘The Second Half’, due for released on 9 October, is the former Ireland and Manchester United midfielder’s second autobiography and will tell the story of his latter playing days as well as his first steps into management.

Speaking to Pat Kenny on Newstalk FM this morning, Booker Prize-winning writer Doyle said: “The idea was put to me and I wondered about what can I bring to this project. One of the reasons why Roy is interesting is first, what he says, and then how he says it.

“I suppose dialogue is one of my strengths so when I met him I said what I’ll try to do is capture the way he speaks, on paper. So it would come across as a long monologue.”

“He’s fantastic to work with,” he added. “Right down to the proof-reading. We would work on four hour sessions and once I had a few chapters done we would work on an old chapter then move onto a new one.

“So we went through it line-by-line-by-line-by-line-by-line. It was very much a collaborative thing.”
