Keane could turn down Turkey for Blackburn - reports

The former Sunderland boss is one of the favourites to take over from Steve Kean at Rovers.

ROY KEANE MAY not be relocating to the opposite side of Europe after all.

The 41-year-old former Manchester United and Celtic midfielder has been out of management since departing Ipswich in 2011 but held talks with Turkish side Kasimpasa SK over a move in recent weeks.

Keane travelled to Istanbul on Monday to discuss signing a contract that is believed to be worth around €1.7m-a-year but although an agreement seemed close, as of yet no deal has been struck.

According to The Daily Mirror, Blackburn Rovers have now made a late bid to bring the Corkman to Lancashire.

Rovers, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, sacked Steve Kean last week after a run of four wins, three draws and one defeat in the Npower Championship this term and are on the look-out for a replacement.

Taking over Blackburn would make a lot more sense than relocating to Turkey from a geographical point of view as it not involve moving away from his young family.

However, the club’s long-term stability is uncertain under the Venky family and he would need assurances before accepting to take the reigns.

Former title-winners with the club Tim Sherwood and Alan Shearer are also in the running for the job while Keane’s old team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has played down speculation linking him.

BBC Sport report the current Molde boss as saying: “It’s the same as always. Speculation. We have gone up this path before and it is only speculation.

It will happen when it happens, that I have to pick up the phone to Molde owner Kjell Inge Rokke regarding a job offer, but I have not spoken to Blackburn as yet.”
