Martin O'Neill is keeping a close eye on Roy Keane's beard

Enough book talk – let’s talk about the beard.

MARTIN O’NEILL AND Roy Keane could be set for a showdown — over the Corkman’s facial hair.

Keane was anointed as Irish sport’s beard king in a poll of TheScore.ie’s readers last week.

But the wild look isn’t to everyone’s taste with Alf-Inge Haaland likening him to Saddam Hussein as their old feud flared up again.

O’Neill — who took a friendly pot-shot at the Irish media and their casual work attire last month — turned his attention towards his right-hand man today.

After fielding questions on Keane’s new book, he jokingly described his assistant’s appearance as “bedraggled.”

The Ireland boss quipped: “I may well [speak to him] because he looks really bedraggled.

“He does. There’s no doubt at all about it.”

The media in attendance didn’t get off scot free either as O’Neill referred back to his recent rebuke.

“I think he wants to join your group,” he added.
