LOI wrap: Rovers come back to beat Cork, Drogheda overcome Dundalk

There were also victories tonight for UCD and Derry in the Airtricity League Premier Division.

THERE WAS LATE drama in the Airtricity League this evening, as an injury time goal from John Sullivan helped Drogheda earn a thrilling 3-2 win over local rivals Dundalk.

Two goals from Mark Griffin had given Dundalk a substantial advantage, but a double from Peter Hynes, in addition to Sullivan’s late goal sealed a victory for the Boynesiders.

Meanwhile, at Turner’s Cross, Shamrock Rovers came from a goal down to beat Cork City 2-1.

Ian Turner gave the hosts an early lead after four minutes, before Ronan Finn and Gary McCabe scored goals either side of half-time to ultimately earn them a victory.

UCD secured an important 3-1 win over fellow relegation battlers Bray Wanderers at the Belfield Bowl.

David McMillan put UCD in the lead with a penalty, before Sean Houston equalised.

However, two late goals by Paul O’Conor and Chris Lyons won it for the Students.

Finally, Derry City capitalised on a disappointing display by Shelbourne, as they won 2-0 at Tolka Park this evening.

Goals from David McDaid and Stephen McLaughlin helped the visitors prevail.
