Rossies chief Newton plays it safe ahead of championship clash

Roscommon take on Galway at Dr Hyde Park in a Connacht SFC quarter-final this Sunday.

ROSCOMMON BOSS Des Newton has stuck with the tried and tested for this weekend’s championship showdown with Galway.

His side are set for a Connacht SFC quarter-final at Dr Hyde Park on Sunday (throw-in 4pm).

There’s no place in the first XV for any of the county’s U-21 stars, who were recently beaten by Dublin in the All-Ireland final.

The experienced duo of Michael Finneran and Karol Mannion form the midfield pairing while wing back Donal Ward remains on the injury list. Goalkeeper Geoffrey Claffey skippers the side.

Roscommon (SFC v Galway): G Claffey (capt); S McDermott, N Carty, S Purcell; C Dineen, P Domican, I Kilbride; M Finneran, K Mannion; D Keenan, C Cregg, J Rogers; S Kilbride, D McDermott, D Shine.
