AS IT HAPPENED

As it happened: Roscommon v Tyrone, All-Ireland MFC semi-final

We were live from Croke Park as Roscommon and Tyrone met in today’s minor football semi-final.

BEFORE DUBLIN AND Kerry took centre stage, Roscommon and Tyrone met in today’s Croke Park curtain-raiser.

A date with Mayo’s minors on 22 September awaits. Who would it be?

Tyrone 1-12 Roscommon 0-13

Good afternoon and welcome to TheScore.ie’s live minute-by-minute coverage of today’s first game from Croke Park: the minor football semi-final between Roscommon and Tyrone.

We’re expecting a capacity crowd here in Headquarters later but for now, it’s quiet.

Both teams are out on the pitch below us warming up. We’ll have the team line-ups in a minute.

Roscommon: Shane Mannion; David Neary, Sean Mullooly, Martin Flannery; Ronan Daly (c), Evan McGrath, Eoin Fallon; Cathal Compton, Ultan Harney; Tadhg O’Rourke, Jack Earley, Senan Farrell; Henry Walsh, Diarmuid McGann, Diarmuid Murtagh.

Tyrone: Sean Fox; Colm Byrne, Rhys Quinn, Cillian McCann; Shea Hamill, Christopher Morris, Padraig McGirr; Ronan Nugent, Frank Burns; David Mulgrew, Conor McKenna, Ruairi McGlone (c); Lee Brennan, Daire Gallagher, Stephen McGrath.

One change for the Tyrone team as named earlier this week: Philip Donnelly comes in to replace David Mulgrew at wing-forward.

Before we get underway, here’s a quick reminder of how both teams booked their place in today’s semi.

Tyrone needed a last-gasp leveller from Stephen McGrath before seeing off Kerry in extra-time in the quarter-finals, 0-17 to 1-12.

Meanwhile 14-men Roscommon hit three goals to shock Kildare, 3-8 to 0-12.

We’re off as referee Derek O’Mahoney gets us underway. Roscommon shooting into the Hill 16 end in this first half.

Tyrone 0-1 Roscommon 0-1: 3 mins — Philip Donnelly, a late addition to the Tyrone XV, kicks the game’s opening score. Tadhg O’Rourke levels it up at the other end.

PENALTY TO ROSCOMMON! Great work by Ultan Harney to spin Frank Burns and play in Diarmuid Murtagh. He’s fouled by Rhys Quinn just as he’s about to shoot… PENALTY!

Roscommon 0-2 Tyrone 0-1: 5 mins – SAVED! Sean Fox gets down low to his right to palm away Diarmuid McGann’s effort. Murtagh kicks a point when the resulting 45 is played short.

Roscommon 0-3 Tyrone 0-1: 9 mins — Diarmuid McGann kicks a free from in front of the posts. Just before that, the Roscommon full-forward had a great chance for a goal following good work by Cathal Compton and Diarmuid Murtagh but he was crowded out before he could get his shot off.

Another sniff of a chance for McGann who looked to be in behind the Tyrone defence but just couldn’t collect Henry Walsh’s cross-field pass.

Roscommon 0-3 Tyrone 0-2: 15 mins — Tyrone drop a free short and Philip Donnelly does well to recover and force a 45′, which Conor McKenna kicks.

Roscommon 0-3 Tyrone 0-3: 18 mins – Clever play by Tyrone. McKenna takes a difficult free short to Donnelly and the one-two gives him a much better shooting angle.

The point is waved wide but after some protests from the Tyrone bench, it’s referred to HawkEye and shown to have snuck inside the right upright.

Roscommon 0-4 Tyrone 0-3: 21 mins —  Diarmuid McGann has a free about 35 yards out and slightly to the left. He splits the Hill 16 posts to put Roscommon back into the lead.

Another nice passage of Roscommon movement ends in another wide; this time, Cathal Compton is the culprit.

Roscommon 0-5 Tyrone 0-3: 25 mins — Henry Walsh kicks a point from play as Roscommon start to make their dominance show on the score board.

Captain Ronan Daly comes up from the back and combines with Ultan Harney to create a good shooting chance for Henry Walsh but the Kilbride man gets under the ball too much and it drops short for Tyrone to clear.

We’re into additional time at the end of the first half. At least two minutes.

Roscommon 0-6 Tyrone 0-3: 30+2 mins — McGann kicks another free and Roscommon go into the break three points up.

HALF TIME: Roscommon 0-6 Tyrone 0-3

Scorers for Roscommon: D McGann 0-3 (3f), T O’Rourke, D Murtagh, H Walsh all 0-1.

Scorers for Tyrone: C McKenna 0-2 (1f), P Donnelly 0-1.

SECOND HALF: We’re underway for the second half.

Roscommon 0-7 Tyrone 0-3: 31 mins — Ronan Daly kicks the first point of the second half and Roscommon lead by four.

Two early wides for Tyrone in this second half and manager Mickey Donnelly will have to start thinking about changes sooner rather than later.

Tyrone skipper Ruairi McGlone slips a pass through to Conor McKenna on the edge of the large parallelogram but just as he’s about to shoot, Sean Mullooly gets a hand in to knock the ball away.

It’s a warning for Roscommon who should be far more than four points ahead on the balance of play so far.

Roscommon 0-7 Tyrone 1-4: 38 mins — GOAL FOR TYRONE! McKenna cuts the gap to three with a point from play and then breaks through the heart of the Roscommon defence on the next possession, firing home a superb goal that gave Shane Mannion no chance. All square!

Roscommon 0-9 Tyrone 1-4: 41 mins — Stung into life by McKenna’s goal, Roscommon bite back. Murtagh slots a free and then captain Ronan Daly charges forward from the back to kick his second score of the afternoon.

Roscommon 0-10 Tyrone 1-5: 44 mins — Ultan Harney points to make it three unanswered for Roscommon but Lee Brennan cancels it out with a long-range score at the other end.

Roscommon 0-10 Tyrone 1-6: 45 mins – Tyrone sub Cathal McShane fires another into the Hill 16 end to cut the gap to one again.

Roscommon 0-11 Tyrone 1-6: 46 mins — Diarmuid Murtagh slots an easy free from in front of the posts after Tyrone are penalised for a jersey tug.

Roscommon 0-11 Tyrone 1-7: 48 mins – Frank Burns surges into space and squares to Stephen McGrath who has a sight at goal but blasts the ball high over Mannion’s crossbar.

Roscommon 0-12 Tyrone 1-7: 50 mins — Murtagh knocks over another free as Roscommon continue to make Tyrone pay for their fouls at the back.

Roscommon 0-13 to 1-10 Tyrone: 57 mins – McKenna puts Tyrone in front but only for a second as Compton levels.

Tyrone 1-11 to Roscommon 0-13: 58 mins – That man again! McKenna scores and Tyrone lead with two minutes to play.

Tyrone 1-12 to Roscommon 0-13: 59 mins – Morris adds another for Tyrone and that could be that.

FULL TIME: Tyrone 1-12 Roscommon 0-13

So it’s Tyrone who will meet Mayo on 22 September. After dominating possession and leading for most of the game, Roscommon will be rueing the one who got away.

Right, that’s it from me for this game. Thanks for reading and commenting and congrats to Tyrone.
