MANCHESTER UNITED STRIKER Wayne Rooney has hit out at suggestions that he dived to get Bastian Schweinsteiger sent off during his side’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich.
Schweinsteiger was shown a second yellow card after sliding in on Rooney towards the end of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, ruling the Germany midfielder out of next week’s second leg in Munich.
Schweinsteiger exchanged angry words with Rooney after the incident, while Bayern coach Pep Guardiola appeared to make a ‘dive’ gesture, but the England striker insisted that he had been fouled.
“I don’t really want to say what he (Schweinsteiger) said, but I thought it was a foul,” Rooney said, in comments reported by several British newspapers on Thursday.
“If I didn’t get out of the way, he could have hurt me. He’s gone in with his studs and the referee has booked him, so it’s not my decision.

“It’s not nice to see anyone get sent off. I didn’t try and get him sent off — the referee has made the decision. I have tried to stop myself from getting hurt and the referee has had a decision to make.
“He’s a great player and he’s obviously someone they will miss — and (Javi) Martinez as well being suspended — but they have a great squad of players who can come in.”

United took a 58th-minute lead against the defending champions through captain Nemanja Vidic, before Schweinsteiger equalised nine minutes later.
The hosts could have gone in front in the first half, only for Danny Welbeck to miscue an attempted chip when one-on-one with Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, and Rooney was critical of his team-mate’s decision-making.
“We have watched videos of their goalkeeper and we know he is a bit like (former United goalkeeper Peter) Schmeichel in the way he comes out, so it’s a bit disappointing that he tried to dink him, but he will learn from that and I’m sure if he gets a chance over there he won’t do that again,” said Rooney.

With United 17 points off the pace in the Premier League and out of both domestic cups, the Champions League represents the English champions’ last hope of winning some silverware this season.
Although Bayern’s away goal means that they remain favourites to reach the semi-finals, Rooney says that Wednesday’s game at the Allianz Arena will be an occasion to savour.
“It’s a massive game for our season,” said the 28-year-old.
“I scored there last time (2010), it’s a fantastic stadium to play in, and to go there with the chance to knock the holders out of the tournament is a great incentive to us.
“A result there will keep our season alive so we’re looking forward to it and it’s a massive challenge to us. We have to go and prove we are a good team.”
I’m an Arsenal fan and I think it’s abiut time Bayern got a taste of their own medicine in regards to diving, robben is the worst in the history of football!!
No if he was able to dive over him surely he can jump over him. Saying that bayern do it so therefore it’s ok for Rooney to do it is a pretty weak argument. But u can’t blame Rooney, it’s gamesmanship
Jaymie you seriously haven’t a clue, saying Rooney scored the bulk of the goals with Ronaldo’s help. Explain to me how come Rooney has scored an average of 25 goals a season in the four full seasons since Ronaldo’s left and 21.5 goals for the previous 5 when playing alongside Ronaldo’s you plonker!
Just an observation if your A United Fan & responding to Jaymie your just feeding him. He’s just trying to wind you up if people stop responding he’ll stop posting.
Be careful 9times , don’t mention the word Ass or Pablo will want to dress you up in women’s clothes and call you Carol. He seems to have a thing for that now , don’t say you weren’t warned
Rooney has said that he jumped to get out of the way and schweinsteiger was leading with his studs and wanted to avoid injury . I for one don’t blame him, when they played at the same stage in 2010 he got injured by a rash challenge at OT , his foot was patched up to play in the return fixture in Germany in which the Bayern players targeted his injured foot constantly during the game. So again I don’t blame him !!!
So when Rooney threw his arms in the air and arched his back backwards that wasn’t a dive???? Bullsh1t!!! Sturridge dived last week blatantly, Rooney dived against Schweinsteiger!! They both did so united and Liverpool fans, just be honest….. For once just admit the truth!!
ANyone who thinks their own team doesn’t contain divers is either pulling the p(ss or else they really need to get out a bit.
EVERY team has them. Liverpool fans saying United players are worst and vice versa, lads seriously do you expect people to take you serious?
You hit nail on the head Dave, THEY ALL DO IT!
I have said this before but if you dont dive and cheat you are a mug in the modern game. Do you n ot think bastian wouldnt have done the same? Cheating means winning and thats the long and short of it even if its means rolling round the ground when you’ve been pushed in the arm. Oh and Jamie get a life or a wife one of the two!

I’m an Arsenal fan and I think it’s abiut time Bayern got a taste of their own medicine in regards to diving, robben is the worst in the history of football!!
He dived,no contact was made between the players.you could tell by rooney a reaction when confronted that he knew he dived
Couldn’t agree more, Robben would put Tom Daly to shame. Fantastic talent but as much as breathe on him and he’s rolling around screaming.
Enda are you saying that Rooney dived but Bayern do it all the time so it’s ok?thats what it reads to me
Exactly Paul you can guarantee he’ll do his best to go down as much as possible especially as they’re at home .
So what if he did ! He won’t make the Olympic team like Sturridge and RATBOY will .
You mean the top goal scores in the premier league?and rat boy was banned for how many games?how many goals does fat boy have earning 300k a week
So he was supposed to keep running into him and risk injury?
212 Jaymie if I’m not mistaken
Living in the past buddy talking about this season.he got the bulk of them goals when Ronaldo was carrying him years ago
Ashley Young,Danny Welbeck,Wayne Rooney,Adnan Janusij can dive with the same precision and frequency as Robben
No if he was able to dive over him surely he can jump over him. Saying that bayern do it so therefore it’s ok for Rooney to do it is a pretty weak argument. But u can’t blame Rooney, it’s gamesmanship
Tom you can’t say that you’ll get red thumbed here for saying that
Jaymie you seriously haven’t a clue, saying Rooney scored the bulk of the goals with Ronaldo’s help. Explain to me how come Rooney has scored an average of 25 goals a season in the four full seasons since Ronaldo’s left and 21.5 goals for the previous 5 when playing alongside Ronaldo’s you plonker!
