Rooney and United rubbish exit claims

The club have described a report in The Independent, which indicated that the striker was set to leave Old Trafford, as “nonsense”.

MAN UNITED AND Wayne Rooney have both dismissed claims that the striker is heading for the Old Trafford exit door.

A front page in tomorrow’s edition of The Independent indicates that the striker is on the verge of leaving the club.

However, responding to rumours that he was leaving the club as a result of a rift with Alex Ferguson, Rooney tweeted:

“The independent are talking absolute rubbish my future is with Manchester United and the club and I are totally commited [sic] to each other… the manager and I have no issues and anyone who says different don’t know what they are talking about.”

Meanwhile, United also denied the reports, via a statement released on their official website, which read:

“Manchester United and Wayne Rooney have been made aware of the theme of an article in tomorrow’s Independent newspaper… Any suggestion that Manchester United and Wayne Rooney are to part company is complete nonsense.”

Rooney had been disciplined earlier in the month by the club following a poor performance in training. He was dropped for their 3-2 loss to Blackburn as a result of his behaviour, but returned to their starting lineup earlier in the week against Newcastle.
