CHRIS WEIDMAN UNANIMOUSLY outpointed Lyoto Machida at UFC 175 on Saturday night to retain his middleweight title.
The judges had Weidman ahead 49-46, 49-45, 48-47 over Machida (21-5). This was Weidmanโs second title defense after shocking the MMA world with a victory over long-time champion Anderson Silva one year ago.
In the co-main event, womenโs bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey stopped Alexis Davis at 16 seconds of the first round. Rousey improved to 10-0 with all wins by way of submission, KO or TKO. This was her fourth consecutive title defence.
The former Olympic Judoka was praised during her post-fight interview for her improved striking skills and replied, โI box six days a week and grapple four days a week. I have more to catch up on striking, so thatโs what I train the most. I think I can do better.โ
Rousey rocked Davis with a solid right, secured an immediate judo toss and landed nine punches, knocking out Davis and forcing the referee to stop the fight in what became the second-fastest knockout in UFC title bout history.
Rousey, jeered by fans following her past UFC victories, received a loud ovation from most in attendance.
โIโm not sure if theyโll keep cheering me,โ Rousey said. โIโm not going to keep my fingers crossed, but thank you, I appreciate it.โ
Sheโd hand it back to ya soft
Iโd be afraid she wouldnโt hand it back to you at all
She is pretty hot too. I donโt think youโd mess with her though!
Some power!
Women fighting in UCF code!! Cโmon this is all wrong. Who really has an interest in watching too women batter the life out of each other? Im not against UFC by the way but having women partake is a step too far. Boxing is one thing but this is entirely another. I happy to take the accusations of being sexist etc, on this one.
Can you at least elaborate on your opposition of women partaking?
No problem Roibeard. I find UFC a facinating but brutal sport. Im not against it but nor do i follow it too closely. The reason i would be against women in the sport is because it is easily the most physically dangerous sport on the planet. If you look at the problems boxing and the NFL have with brain injuries from former pros, given the amount of punishment inflicted during a UFC bout they would dwarf their couterparts in American football or boxing. I believe UFC has a s##t load of lawsuits in the post when the current generation of UFC fighters reach middle age/ retire. Female UFC fighters with brain injuries- not a nice thought. Plus its the asthetics of it. I can imagine there is a significant proportion of the male population who likes to see 2 women murdering each other. But iโm not one of them.
