REAL MADRID FORWARD Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that a humble attitude has been the key for success in his career.
The Portuguese attacker has won titles in England and Spain, the Champions League in 2008, and the Ballon d’Or during his time in the game.
And be believes that his own hard work has helped him get to the top, along with his natural footballing talent.
“I think that it’s down to talent and the fact I’ve worked incredibly hard to achieve my objectives,” the 27-year-old told Fifa.com.
“You need to be humble enough to know what’s missing from your game and work towards it.“Throughout my whole career I’ve always tried to learn, evolve and win trophies. I’m very ambitious, I always want to win and I’ll stay that way until I hang up my boots.”
Madrid currently sit 18 points behind Barcelona in their battle to retain the title, and Ronaldo has told his team-mates to focus on the Champions League now.
“We haven’t started the championship very well for sure,” he continued.
“We know that La Liga’s an uphill struggle for us now, but nothing’s impossible in football. We’re going to work hard, win games and see what happens.
“Every Madridista wants that tenth European Cup – we’re more than aware of that. Last season we fell just short, which was very frustrating. Fortunately we’ve got the opportunity to set the record straight this year.”
Ronaldo’s current contract with Madrid runs until 2015 but already speculation has been raised as to whether he will remain in the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria, however, believes that if Ronaldo did sign an early extension it would be beneficial for the team.
“He [Cristiano Ronaldo] has to decide,” Di Maria said.“He still has a contract with the club. In my opinion, he is a really great player and one that Real Madrid needs.
“So, I think he will make everything good if he renews his contract, but it is his decision.”
Di Maria, meanwhile, says he is fit and ready to play in the upcoming Copa Del Rey quarter final against Valencia.
“I’m feeling so good and working to be at 100 percent,” he said.
“I have not been playing the last few games but that’s the coach’s decision. I can only work day by day and make sure I’m ready to play.”
