RODDY COLLINS WAS a guest, as usual, on Off The Ballโs League of Ireland section tonight.
And one Newstalk listener had some bad news for him, bringing his attention to a tweet from Athlone Town, whom he led to the First Division title and promotion in recent months.
The club advertised for a new boss last week and tonight tweeted: โNews on the appointment of the new manager tomorrow.โ
The club have now deleted the message and say โaccount was compromised earlier tonight and we now have full control again. Panic over move along folks.โ
When told of the initial tweet, Collins said: โThatโs League of Ireland football. Thatโs news to me. Thatโs 100 per cent news to me.
โI knew it was advertised for interviews on Friday. Iโve never applied for any other job. But Iโve never been approached by Athlone to stay. My last conversation with the club was last Thursday and I made it clear that I had no desire to leave the club. Iโve had no meaningful dialogue though since we won the league six weeks ago.โ
No one from the club was immediately available for comment.
Roddy has done what he did when he won the double with Bohs in 2001 โ talked himself out of his own job.
New manager will be Kieran McGeeny. Bet he applied
No LOI club could afford McGeeneyโs wages, they couldnโt come near to matching his โexpensesโ from his previous job
Rod Squad 3 on the way so
His arrogant nob!! Shoddy Collins
