Dr Harty Cup quarter-final wins for Rochestown College and Doon CBS

The two schools will now face each other at the semi-final stage next month.

ROCHESTOWN COLLEGE WILL face Doon CBS in a novel Dr Harty Cup semi-final pairing after both schools won their quarter-final ties this afternoon.

In Cahir, Rochestown College ran out 1-13 to 0-11 winners over competition specialists Thurles CBS. It was a remarkable victory for Rochestown College, who moved up to feature at Dr Harty Cup level this year after reaching the semi-final stage of the Corn Phádraig ‘B’ competition last season.

Mark Dolan hit the only goal of the game in the opening half to help Rochestown College lead 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval. They maintained their grip on the game after the break and ran out winners by five points.

Dolan struck 1-6 (0-5f) overall with Shane Kingston, son of Cork senior hurling selector Shane, hitting three points from play. His brother Conor was also involved. Former Cork All-Ireland winner Jim Cashman had two sons in the side, Niall and John, along with his nephew Gavin Connolly.

The Rochestown College setup contains Aaron Ward, who was a Cork minor last year, but another minor Mark O’Connor was out through injury.

Winning

Meanwhile in the Gaelic Grounds, Doon CBS enjoyed a 2-13 to 1-13 success against Charleville CBS.

They got off to a great start with a goal from Fiachra O’Grady and lead by 1-5 to 0-5 at the break after Charleville were reduced to 14 men.

Colin Ryan struck Doon’s second goal in the final quarter but they had a nervy finish when Jack Buckley raised a green flag for Charleville. Doon ran out three-point winners to set up a semi-final tie with Rochestown next month.

The other quarter-final that was scheduled for today between Dungarvan CBS and Hamilton HS Bandon was postponed due to an unplayable pitch. Ardscoil Rís face Our Lady’s Templemore in the remaining quarter-final on Friday in Nenagh.
