MANCHESTER UNITED RECEIVED another setback today when manager David Moyes revealed that striker Robin van Persie will be out for a month with a thigh injury.
The Dutchman recently returned from a four-game lay-off due to a groin problem, playing in last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United and the midweek victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

However, he injured himself as he took the corner that led to Phil Jones’s 67th-minute winner against Shakhtar and Moyes expects him to be out of action until next year.
“Robin Van Persie is out for a month,” Moyes said. “He picked up a thigh strain in taking a corner kick which led to the goal.”
Moyes added: “It is unfortunate because I think if you look at our record with Wayne Rooney and Robin in the team, it is actually very good and we have not had them for quite a period recently.
“Marouane Fellaini has a bit of a back injury. Michael Carrick is missing and Robin is going to miss four weeks with a thigh strain. That is a big blow to us.”
United’s top scorer last season, Van Persie has scored seven goals in 11 league appearances this term.
News of his injury comes as United bid to bounce back from successive home defeats in the league, which have left them 13 points behind leaders Arsenal. Moyes’s side visit Aston Villa on Sunday.
He said it himself that he was only to play 60 mins on his return against Newcastle, he ended up playing the full game and now injured! Not exactly blameless in this!
From an arsenal fan, seeing RVP on the injury bench is not a surprise. He spent about 6 years on/off on the arsenal injury bench. I don’t think it has much to do with Moyes. He was broken when ye bought him.
His training regime was changed years back and resulted in a much better fitness record (90 consecutive league games). It’s been reported since the summer that he wasn’t happy with Moyes’ training methods that involve too much for his body.
He was already injured and only supposed to play 50-60 minutes against Newcastle (he was already being rushed back) and Moyes said “I was due to take him off after 60-70 minutes but if I’d taken him off everybody would have said ‘what are you doing?’”
Yes, I do blame Moyes. His training methods and desperation to keep his own head above water have clearly caused more injuries to the player who almost single handedly won them the league last season.
So along with our under performing “stars” and a squad laden with dead weight, RVP is out again. Happy Christmas to every other club. Could be a miserable one for us United fans!
We need a bit of luck and for the confidence to come back into the team quickly…
Ha ha I’m delighted u turncoat! Should have stuck with Arsenal. What a difference a year makes. We probably won’t win the league but if RVP stayed we would. The more misery United have the better. I like Moyes tho in fairness.
It’s not looking good at Man Utd.
They’ve got a lot of ageing and very ordinary players and star players like Van Persie are not happy.
They need to spend some serious money soon to fix the team but will the owners give Moyes the money.
It’s good that at least Utd have cover in Rooney and Hernandez/Welbeck/kagawa , could be worse you could lose a your only decent midfielder for the busiest period of the year.
Typical utd fan retorting by commenting on Liverpool. You should be more concerned with your own team rather than being fixated by how badly another team does.
You can’t wish or laugh injury on any player. Us Liverpool fans have much to worry about too with Gerrard and Sturridge out. Lucas and Allen in midfield anyone….I see trouble ahead
Well Steve, the Newton Heath brigade was out in full force on the Journal last night, full of Schadenfreude for us being without Stevie G and Sturridge over x-mas… what goes around comes around I’d say….never really liked RVP though , decent player but also a bit of a twta…defo another blow for Mr”No-Title”Moyes! Happy X-mas!LOL
Looks like those rumours of him being unhappy with the training methods have some substance. I imagine he’ll be gone next year, can’t see him sticking around. Probably should have seeing as his former team are flying high right now.
I’m an Arsenal fan and RVP was right to leave : wud have preferred if he went elsewhere but he’s not getting any younger and wanted to achieve something and u can’t knock him for that : I hate to say this but still Arsenal haven’t improved it’s just that the teams around us are not playing well ; Ozil is lazy, Carzola isn’t what he was last season, Wallcot is a disaster; I’d welcome back RVP IN THE MORNING
Robin Van Persie was hardly injured last season when Sir Alex was there. Suddenly David Moyes takes over and he spends most of the time on the injury table. Well Done Moyes.
Wait, one reasonably trouble fee year and he is a changed man ? Could it possibly be that he just had a good run rather than its Moyes fault that he is injured now? Scapegoating much ?
Every injury prone player always gets a couple of decent seasons. Van Persie injured… I mean that never happens…
United are daffy ducked now when Rooney hits his annual 10 game goal drought!
Well done Moyes. He played 90 consecutive league games without injury and you’ve managed to break him inside a few months.
He spent years injured at Arsenal. Chickens coming home to roost now. Could it be that David Moyes in an unlucky general?
Ah you can blame Moyes for him getting injured in fairness Gary!
He said it himself that he was only to play 60 mins on his return against Newcastle, he ended up playing the full game and now injured! Not exactly blameless in this!

I agree, by the way :)

#MoyesIn
There have been mutterings from Carrington that the new training regime is a bit old school & is flogging the players a bit too hard.
RVP had a great run of games under the old regime.
Off for the whole of Christmas… he must be gutted!!!
So along with our under performing “stars” and a squad laden with dead weight, RVP is out again. Happy Christmas to every other club. Could be a miserable one for us United fans!
We need a bit of luck and for the confidence to come back into the team quickly…
The question should be will he be back at all.
Hahahahaha. Seems like the arsenal fans were right! He’s an injury prone coward….. #MoyesIn
He’s a coward? Very smart football fan we have here..
Wouldn’t pay much attention. He talks nonsense on every article he comments on
If he had a runny nose he would be out injured
..with more league medals than Stevie G #Rogersin(theclubsecretary)
Hes made of glass he was always out at arsenal
Medal singular, also where is his champions league medal
Ha, delighted.
Ha ha I’m delighted u turncoat! Should have stuck with Arsenal. What a difference a year makes. We probably won’t win the league but if RVP stayed we would. The more misery United have the better. I like Moyes tho in fairness.

Sure mancs missing there main midfielder for next few weeks aswell in Carrick.
Colin Meade etc Ahern it’s called playing the game as you well know
Says yer man trolling a Man Utd story.
Spot on lunar. Liverpool v United is all about the slagging. Would be pretty boring without it.
Hell be fit for the January transfer Window
You can’t wish or laugh injury on any player. Us Liverpool fans have much to worry about too with Gerrard and Sturridge out. Lucas and Allen in midfield anyone….I see trouble ahead
With Suarez we always got a chance.
Its got to the stage where I almost feel sorry for United.
Almost.
Never.
I hope the team physio is good friends with him, they’ll be spending a lot of time together!
Looks like those rumours of him being unhappy with the training methods have some substance. I imagine he’ll be gone next year, can’t see him sticking around. Probably should have seeing as his former team are flying high right now.
Also, he looks pretty hot with a beard.
Jaysis Ann marie with your in depth knowledge you should become a football reporter. Watch out Graham hunter
Ann-Marie you look pretty hot with a guitar and no beard.
That’s United proper fecked now.
Well I’m delighted. Moyes is a legend. Keep up the good work.
And the crumble continues.Anyone else see United droppin more points this weekend?
RVP = Rarely aVailable Player
He is an auld fart, and auld fart’s get more prone to injury as they get aulder.
sell him in January’s window…. doesn’t want to be there anymore since fergie left… cash in
I’m an Arsenal fan and RVP was right to leave : wud have preferred if he went elsewhere but he’s not getting any younger and wanted to achieve something and u can’t knock him for that : I hate to say this but still Arsenal haven’t improved it’s just that the teams around us are not playing well ; Ozil is lazy, Carzola isn’t what he was last season, Wallcot is a disaster; I’d welcome back RVP IN THE MORNING
Moyes had him doing 50 laps of the pitch with a black bag under his tracksuit. Really the man has not moved on since Preston
Out injured = brings him well into transfer window. Hope he goes.
He had one injury free year the year before he left arsenal and last season for united where he was the difference for them and won them the league. I said at the time arsenal got a great price for a Crocked thirty year old and that is being proved right. United should cut him loose. He will spend more time on the treatment table now then ever before.
Big loss but more worried about centre midfield tbh.
Bang goes that top 18 spot now !
I see all the loserfool fans are here talking smack! You know no player is bigger than the club at united! Its been proven year after year united are not liverpool there champ20ns! Cant wait till the end of the season when united are on top of liverpool and all the liverpool fans will be thinking what could of been! Go back under your rock! GGMU!!!!!
Utd are going to continue to slide now. Everton finishing above them will be the real kick in the nuts. Moyes hasn’t the personality for Utd. He’s too defensive and dour. One thing he should do between now and next October(when he’ll be sacked) is get rid of Rio Ferdinand.
Im devestated
Wouldn’t be surprised if Sir Alex payed a ‘friendly’ visit to Moyes over Christmas!
