Spurs complete €30m signing of Roberto Soldado

The Spanish international striker has joined from Valencia for a club-record fee.

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Valencia striker Roberto Soldado for a club-record fee.

A deal between the two clubs was agreed on Friday, believed to be €30million (£26m), with the 28-year-old now passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Soldado scored 24 goals in 35 Liga appearances last season and will provide competition for places in Andre Villas-Boas’ starting line-up.

Following the departure of Clint Dempsey to Seattle Sounders, Tottenham had just two recognised strikers on their books – Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Announcing the deal on their official website, Tottenham said: “We are delighted to confirm the signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia after the player successfully completed his medical.

The Spain international striker is expected to be available for the first time when we face Espanyol in our final pre-season friendly at White Hart Lane next weekend.”

Soldado has won 11 international caps for Spain, netting six goals.

The deal sees Tottenham break their previous club record fee of £17million paid for Paulinho, following the Brazilian midfielder’s move from Corinthians in July.
