Done Deal?

Robbie races to complete Galaxy move as US transfer window slams shut

Are Robbie and Claudine heading for the west coast?

ROBBIE KEANE FACED a race against the clock to complete his move to the LA Galaxy last night after Tottenham reportedly accepted a late £3m bid from the MLS club.

With the league’s transfer window closing at 5am BST this morning, the Republic of Ireland striker had just a couple of hours to agree personal terms with the Galaxy, whose current stars include David Beckham and American international Landon Donovan.

Speculation linking the 31-year-old with a move to America first began to surface on Friday, but Galaxy coach Bruce Arena declined to comment on any potential signings when asked by ESPN yesterday.

Arena was also unwilling to shed any light on the future of former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel, who is currently unsettled at the west coast club. Due to the complex salary cap rules in the MLS, Angel had to leave the Galaxy ahead of the deadline before Keane could be signed.

Should the deal fall through, the Tallaght man is still likely to find plenty of interest closer to home, despite being told that his services are no longer required at White Hart Lane.

Leicester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is understood to be interested in signing Keane, though it is not known if the Championship club would be able to meet his wage demands.
