IRELAND SKIPPER ROBBIE Keane scored twice in Los Angeles Galaxy’s 3-1 win over DC United last night, after a poor week for the reigning MLS champions.
Keane grabbed his first just before the half-time whistle, tapping home after Todd Dunivant headed a cross back across goal to the Dubliner.
After 69 minutes, Keane had two.
Landon Donovan burst through the middle of the pitch before passing to the 31-year-old who thumped a left-footed shot into the opposite corner from just inside the penalty area. Marcelo Sarvas scored Galaxy’s third in the 86th minute, while Nick DeLeon knocked in a consolation goal for United a minute later.
The win was LA’s first in three games after an opening day defeat to Real Salt Lake and a CONCACAF Champions League loss to Toronto on Wednesday. The Galaxy join Seattle and San Jose on three points in the Western Conference.
In Sunday’s other match in the MLS, Colorado Rapids stunned Philadelphia Union 2-1 at home despite having Jeff Larentowicz sent off in the 58th minute.
