Keane and Defoe reunited in MLS All-Star squad to face Bayern Munich

Another former Spurs player, Clint Dempsey, will also be involved, as well as Thierry Henry.

ROBBIE KEANE AND Jermaine Defoe will be reunited on 6 August in the Major League Soccer All-Star team to face Bayern Munich.

The Ireland captain and his former Tottenham teammate were named in the US league’s 23-man roster, along with the likes of Thierry Henry, Clint Dempsey Tim Cahill and Bradley Wright-Phillips. The elite MLS lineup take on the reigning Bundesliga champions and 2013 European Champions League winners in Portland, Oregon.

Wright-Phillips, a striker for the New York Red Bulls, leads MLS with 16 goals in 18 matches while Defoe has 11 goals for Toronto in his first MLS season after leaving Tottenham.

Keane, Ireland’s all-time scoring leader with 62 goals, has 43 goals in three MLS seasons for the Los Angeles Galaxy while Cahill, a Red Bulls midfielder, netted two World Cup goals last month for Australia.

France boasts two MLS all-Stars in Red Bulls forward Henry and 2012 MLS Defender of the Year Aurelien Collin for reigning MLS champion Sporting Kansas City.

Other internationals on the roster included Cuban midfielder Osvaldo Alonso and Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins of Seattle, Canadian midfielder Will Johnson and Argentine midfielder Diego Valeri of Portland and Mexican forward Erick Torres of Chivas USA.

Clint Dempsey of Seattle and Landon Donovan of the Galaxy lead the Americans in the MLS lineup, which also includes US World Cup midfielder Michael Bradley of Toronto, Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez, Seattle defender DeAndre Yedlin, Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi and Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman.
