IT WAS NO great surprise that RTE’s coverage of tonight’s game in Glasgow began with a discussion about Robbie Keane being dropped by Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill.
Here’s how Liam Brady and Eamon Dunphy reacted to the news.
LIAM BRADY: A big call but I think it’s logical. I think in the two away games we’ve had against Georgia and Germany, Robbie struggled to lead the line physically more than anything. At 34, I don’t think he has that power anymore. It’s a big call but it was a call that was coming and I’m glad Martin has had the strength to do it. He’s shown he’s not frightened of making those decision.
EAMON DUNPHY: It’s a big call and it’s the right call, it’s a brave call. It takes courage to drop your captain. Robbie Keane is a big figure in the dressing- room, a big figure around the training camp and his record is superb as a goal-scorer. But I think O’Neill has done well.
I agree but would be delighted if he came on after 60 mins and slotted the winner.
At 75 minutes i reckon he will make an appearance if it stays 0-0
my jesus we are pure shite…
