GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI HAS recalled Kevin Doyle after a calf strain ruled Robbie Keane out of the World Cup qualifier against Austria.

Keane left this morning’s training session in Malahide early to have a scan on the injury, and though Trapattoni expected his captain to be fit for Tuesday, he was ruled out this afternoon.
Wolves striker Doyle was a controversial absentee when the Italian named his original squad and the Wexford man expressed his disappointment to be culled from the panel by text message.
A statement from the FAI today said: “The manager has spoken to Kevin, and he will link up with the squad in time for training in Malahide tomorrow morning.”
He is a bit past it now, but one has to admire his dedication to the cause and unfaltering enthusiasm to play for our country for the last 15 years. Good lad Robbie. Puts people like Stephen Ireland to shame!
I hope it isn’t anything too serious but I don’t see the necessity for Trap’s current dependence on Keane. I mean he is a good striker when necessary and early in the Sweden game nearly capitalised on a few chances but after 20 mins the form slowly dropped. I’m not against him being selected but if he is I hope Wes Hoolahan gets more of a fighting chance to prove himself than he did in the last game. He brought new energy to a lacklustre Irish fourth quarter and seemed the more progressive option.
I honestly don’t know why the called up Sammon. Wes is a premiership starter or at least usually and showed his class in the Poland game and the few moments he got against Sweden.
Friday wasn’t James mccarthys first game for Ireland. I think trap will go with Whelan over McCarthy, persist with Green. No Wes. And Walters or Cox to partner Long.
Keane should do the decent thing and announce his retirement. If he
planned to continue playing , he shouldn’t have joined the circus in
America. He showed how out of touch he is with soccer by his wild
Swing at the ball dropping ten yards from goal. The Keane of old
would have controlled the ball and struck it home. The only reason
he was picked was for his cool head in and around the goals.
Wigans James McCarthy played a very impressive role in the goal-less draw in his first match with ireland and would certainly merit a place against Austria. Next Tuesday night. I would not be surprised but that he could score his debut goal for Ireland at this his second opportunity. With all this flying around our usual dependable Robbie keane seems to have lost his edge . Definitely not so sprightly last week- but who knows what might invigorate him?
Looks like the dream team could be on now with Wes to come in but who knows what Trap might do?

Might be a blessing in disguise, if it means Hoolahan starts instead of Robbie.
He is a bit past it now, but one has to admire his dedication to the cause and unfaltering enthusiasm to play for our country for the last 15 years. Good lad Robbie. Puts people like Stephen Ireland to shame!
Fair dues to Kevin Doyle. Answered his country’s call, irrespective of personal differences. Are you watching Darron Gibson?
Fair comment Kevin. Doyle is a good lad though. He’s a true Trappatoni player. And he’d never turn down a call up.
Or Roy Keane.
Either call up Kevin Doyle or start Hoolahan. Don’t want Cox or Sammon!
Sure with whelan fit he’ll probably drop James Mc carthy
I hope it isn’t anything too serious but I don’t see the necessity for Trap’s current dependence on Keane. Atleast I can watch this game on TV this time. Regularly being forced online to watch my national side thanks to RTE blocking their northern signals.
Well done RTE for denying around 750000 Irish men & women the opportunity to watch their national side.
“Hey Marco, senda another text to datta guy kevin- whatta ya do Tuesday night?”
Should keep the team the same again, but with Doyle/Wes in for Keane. Don’t think McCarthy or Green deserve to be dropped after Friday night
Should be Wes behind Long though.
Sammon and Keogh to start so. Don’t do it trap
Keane should do the decent thing and announce his retirement. If he

Pity about the injury Robbie is a true green, but Doyle should be wound up after being dropped,
Wigans James McCarthy played a very impressive role in the goal-less draw in his first match with ireland and would certainly merit a place against Austria. Next Tuesday night. Definitely not so sprightly last week- but who knows what might invigorate him?
Rumour has it trap saw a video of Owen Coyle and he’s calling him up….
What about Bernie Slavin? Heard he’s having a stormer of a season
Robbie Keane ruled out ,k Doyle called up
Ruled out… That’s the job… Thanks but out with the old in with the new…
glad he’s out, keane is useless now anyway
Keane would make a good impact sub but he shouldn’t be first choice forward any longer. He’s lost his pace & sharpness.
Rumor has it he got injured trying to pick up his wallet after letting it fall
Jealous much ?
Oh god not Glen :-(
Keane looks like Bigfoot in that photo.
Good news: Robbie injured.
Bad news: Glenn fit.
Looks like the dream team could be on now with Wes to come in but who knows what Trap might do?
A 70′s mindset trying to compete in a 21st century game!
Nice
Robbie was a good servant. Time up now though.
Trap = Prat
